Ian Marlow
Welcome to the Expert dental range. We'll cover everything from healthy gums and fresher breath, to stronger teeth and a whiter smile. Every week our dental expert, Ian Marlow, will be here. With his straight-talking style and specialist insight, he'll offer advice and answer questions.
Dry Mouth
Around one in five adults will suffer from a dry mouth at some point in their lives, and it's a common temporary problem that needs to be managed. A dry mouth can make eating, swallowing and sleeping uncomfortable, alter your sense of taste, and give you bad breath. It can also be emotionally distressing. Keeping a dry mouth under control is important, firstly to enhance quality of life, but also to minimise the likelihood of other problems occurring. Use of sprays and mouthwashes, which leave a moisturising film around the mouth, or chewing gums, will make eating and talking easier, but also support the protective benefits we naturally get from saliva.
