Keeping skin soft and flexible

Posted on 20th April at 12:16 PM Posted by: Steve Barton

The skin is a barrier to the outside world keeping all the nasty things out.  A good barrier is one that’s flexible - we’ve still got to live and living means moving around.  The skin over our elbows, knees and knuckles for instance – and even as I type this my finger tips are getting a bashing.  If I had had my hands in detergent all day (as if!) I’d soon find typing a little less comfortable.  Because exposing skin to strong detergents removes some of the protective fats and waxes from the skin that help keep it flexible.  These materials also keep in water – so after detergent exposure the skin can start to lose water at a faster than normal rate.  As this happens the dried out skin loses flexibility (a bit lie parchment or a shed leaf in autumn.  In the long term this can get brittle and can crack (or even go on to get infected).  This is one of the links between sensitive and dry skin – though not all sensitives are dry!.  You can also be sensitive if your skin reacts deeper in the skin – like in sun burn.  Reactive skin like this needs soothing and light cooling moisturisers can be a real help here.  Putting moisturisers onto the skin also does two other things.  Replacing moisture for one and keeping it there as a secondary but really important function - bringing back the flexibility.  Over time moisturised skin will begin to normalise itself and become less brittle and less reactive. People can become very self consciousness of dry and sensitive skin and this can create stress – which only makes things worse. The bonus of applying a moisturiser is that it can calm you mentally – so you get a double benefit.  More of this another time – I’m off on holiday to France for a week - I may do some research into the benefits of red wine for the skin.

Just to let you know

Posted on 25th April at 06:48 AM Posted by: Cristina Gaston

I just want to let you know I’ve only been using your products for the last 3 weeks and I can only say I love it. I especially love your sensitive facial wash, sensitive hydrating moisturizer and emollient bath oil. I have sensitive skin that easily gets blemished and it’s always been difficult for me to find skin products that work. They’re great stuff, I wish I’d discovered them a long time ago.

Expert sensitive hydrating eye cream

Posted on 25th April at 06:50 AM Posted by: Susanna Barr

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for creating a product that really works, it’s absolutely amazing. For almost 6 months I’ve been literally tearing my hair out with frustration. I’ve wasted a small fortune on expensive well known brands that claim to reduce the wrinkles around the eyes… If anything, these products have caused the skin around my eyes to dry up and at times cause serious irritation, I’ve even been reduced to wearing sunglasses so that people can’t see my eyes, they looked terrible. One month ago, I walked into Boots in Bracknell (wearing sunglasses!) I looked around the skin care area and happened upon your amazing product..’Expert sensitive hydrating eye cream’. I thought I may as well give it a try, after all, I’d tried everything else… Wow, after a couple of days I noticed a change.. This is the first cream I have ever used that really works.. If anything, the wrinkles around my eyes have reduced and I have had comments from people telling me how my skin has improved...At the tender age of 41, I can’t afford to take chances on my skin… these wrinkles are ruthless and if it wasn’t for this wonderful product, I don’t know what I would be doing now!!! As well as this, it’s at an affordable priice.... I will be recommending this product to anyone that has experienced the same problems as myself…

Body lotion

I wouldn’t normally do this sort of thing but just wanted to drop a line and say thank you for coming up with such a great product.  I have quite sensitive skin and it is a little dry, specially in the winter with the central heating on.  Many other creams for dry skin are just too heavy and just make my skin feel like it is suffocating, and because they tend to be a little strong, can leave my skin very itchy.  I thought I’d try your Expert Sensitive Moisture Boost Body Lotion (I used to use the Skin Science range in the blue bottle but you don’t do that anymore) as I’m always looking for new products which will help my skin.  It’s wonderful.  My skin feels soft and hydrated from shower to shower and virtually no itchyness or tightness. The cream is light and absorbs really well, and there is no greasiness which is very welcome.  Only critisism is, could you possibly produce in a larger bottle, say 400ml or 500ml, I go through it so quickly.

Thanks again.

Sensitive range

I just wanted to say how fantastic I think your expert sensitive skin products are, i’m 28 years old and have suffered with very spot prone skin since my teens. I have always been extremely conscience about the products I used on my skin and have probably spent thousands through the years on premium rate products, which considering the cost had fairly unsatisfactory results. Following an extreme allergic reaction to one such product in january 2007 (not purchased from one of your stores). My skin appeared to have become sensitive to all products, I couldn’t wear make up (a self confidence ‘mask’ i’ve hidden behind for many years) and I was frantic with worry that my skin would never be normal again. I was in one of your stores looking for a hypoallergenic product and the expert range caught my eye. I decided to go for it (with hesitation as i had purchased many products in the previous few months) and I am thrilled with the results! My skin has improved from the very first usage. I bought pretty much the whole range moisturiser, eye cream, eye makeup remover, make up removing wipes and i am so pleased with it all, not to mention the unbelievable value for money. My skin is better than it has ever been and although it sounds shallow the improvement in my skin has generally improved my day-to-day life in terms of confidence.

I think you should advertise this range more as I was not aware of it until I found it in store, I think others in a similiar situation to me could really benefit.

Please keep up the good work!

shiny face

I have really shiny skin especially on my forehead. I have a lot of facial sweating in summer or when stressed and also really oily skin. Help! Nothing seems to stop it or mop it up. Is there a facial anti perspirant? Also can I over wash it. I wash twice a day and use powder during the day.

Expert v Skin Kindly

Posted on 04th May at 10:33 AM Posted by: L M

I was very disappointed when I found out that the Expert range was replacing the Skin Kindly products as I have sensitive skin and I liked the old range however I’ve since found out that the Expert is exactly the same as the skin kindly range with exactly the same ingredients, just repackaged, re-branded and re-priced - well done Boots the new packaging and prices are spot on.

peeling labels!!

Posted on 13th May at 04:40 PM Posted by: linda wells

have been using the eye make-up remover since it’s launch and it’s brilliant stuff. does exactly what it is supposed to and is very gentle. big bonus is that my eyelashes have grown to an amazing length - i suppose because they are being nourished by the oil and are now not prone to breakage.the tub with impregnated pads are ideal for travel.

only a slight downside - the neck opening could perhaps be smaller - spilling the contents is quite easy plus after a very short time the label begins to peel off. not major unless you are like me and prefer your beauty products to look good if they are on display.

all in all the expert range is well worth trying out - well done

please help!!!

Im having really bad problems with my face, i normally have very clear skin which doesnt get spots but just lately everything i seem to put on it irritates my chin especially, leaving me with a large nasty burn/spot, usually i just use dove sensitive skin soap which is perfect for my skin and ive always used it but it does leave me with slighty flaky skin which i try to soften up by using moisturisers and i try to get the light tanning facial moisturisers, i do use sunbeds regularly, i was hoping you could give me advise on which product i can buy to soften, tan and not irratate my skin, many thanks claire x
