Shave Foams and Shave Gels (the aerosol ones that foam up in you hand) are soap based to soften the beard and to produce a lather that will lubricate the blade that as you shave. Extra ingredients can be added to improve the density of the foam and lubrication. A good shave foam or gel will leave your skin in good condition ready for the application of a moisturiser.
