The difference between dry scalp and dandruff

Posted on 30th April at 11:00 AM Posted by: Stewart Long

It can be difficult to distinguish between dry scalp conditions and dandruff as both problems result in visible flakes. Dandruff is usually associated with small white flakes in the hair but the scalp is generally not particularly itchy, red or inflamed. Dandruff is usually cleared very effectively by using an anti-dandruff product daily for two weeks.  If the scalp feels tight, itchy, irritated, inflamed or dry and a dandruff product has limited effect in treating the condition, it is likely that you suffer from a sensitive or dry scalp. In this case, a dry scalp regime may help considerably in alleviating the tightness and irritation. The products in the Expert range contain a moisturising, soothing pre-treatment (similar to an oil type product) to calm the scalp and protect it. There is also a mild shampoo and a highly moisturising conditioner with aloe, to further soothe and calm irritation. All the products are fragrance free and hypoallergenic and have been tested on sensitive skin individuals to minimize discomfort and help reduce the symptoms. These specialist dry scalp products also contain a stronger anti-flaking agent than the one found in most dandruff shampoos, to help control the large flakes that accompany the condition.

Itchy scalp - the Boots expert range really works!

Posted on 03rd May at 09:06 PM Posted by: Debbie

I used to have a very embarrasing itching scalp but since using the boots expert range (used to be called professional i think) of shampoo and conditioner for the last year or so my scalp has been behaving long term apart from the occasional flare up but nothing like it used to be! Unlike other shampoos that last for a while then my scalp would get used to it and it was then ineffective. The Boots expert shampoo and conditioner are the only ones I use now.

Dry Scalp treatment for coloured hair

Posted on 04th May at 07:59 PM Posted by: Brenda

I would like to try the Dry Scalp Treatment Shampoo as I’ve had a dry scalp around the hairline for years and haven’t found anything to get rid of it. I’m pleased to see that it is hypoallergenic as I’m sensitive to a lot of products. I colour my hair and would like to know if it is suitable and won’t damage the hair or the colour.

Dry scalp treatment shampoo Expert

Posted on 09th May at 06:58 PM Posted by: Rachel Johnston

I wash my hair alot due to having long hair etc, I found to have a dry scalp I believe due to using a hair dryer everyday. I have tried all the leading brands but nothing got rid of the tight and irritated feeling I had. I was driving to work one day and heard an advert on the radio, about this product, so I went to boots to take a look, when I saw the price I was amazed and didn’t think it would work, from the first and second wash I found my hair cleaner for longer, no flakes whats so ever and the irritation dramatically reduced. I rate this shampoo better than the leading brands, wish I had used boots shampoo along time ago and saved myself a small fortune.

Kind Regards

Rach

Dry,flaky itchy scalp

Posted on 14th May at 04:00 PM Posted by: Maurice Ransome

I have suffered from this problem for years and have never found anything, either over the counter or on prescription,to alleviate these symptoms. As I am somewhat ‘follically challenged’ this,to me,was quite embarrassing with patches of flaky skin visible through, and beyond,my hair. Then I discovered’ Expert dry scalp intensive soothing lotion’,this is truly a remarkable product-no more itchy flaky(and sometimes painful)scalp-sheer bliss!Imagine my surprise and dissappointment when going to my local store to replenish my supplies,to be told that this wonderful product had been recalled due to ‘a formulation problem’.I was absolutely devastated! Please can you tell me when I will be able to obtain supplies of this fantastic lotion again?I am prepared to purchase the ‘problem formulation’ as I have no problem with it.

Oily dry scalp

Posted on 18th May at 02:29 PM Posted by: Katriona

My hair is incredibly oily but i have dry, itchy patches aswell! A lot of anti dandruff products are moisturising and contain oil which in turn, makes my hair even more oily! What can i do to solve this problem? is the expert range suited for my hair?

using hair colour occassional itchy dry scalp

Posted on 29th May at 08:50 PM Posted by: G Elsom

My hair is mostly grey and I prefer to colour it, using dark blonde base (light brown comes out too dark) I then have some blonde/red streaks.  My hairdresser doesn’t get the same results as I have done so with shampoo- in colours; but I am worried that I may damage my scalp permanently.  If I treat my scalp regularly and use hair conditioning treatment occassionally, is there a colouring product on the market that is not harmfull to the scalp.
