What’s sensitive skin?

Posted on 28th March at 08:50 AM Posted by: Steve Barton

In reality everyone’s skin is sensitive to some degree, skin needs to respond to the outside world for us to survive. Touch, cold, and pain are amongst the many sensations that evoke various responses, emotional (belonging), physiological (shivering) or behaviorual (escape). For some people the skin’s responsiveness is more extreme. Everyday life can bring them out in rashes, dryness or bring about tight or blotchy skin. We know that there are several aspects of life-style that can contribute - harsh cleansing, UV exposure, and stress are a few examples. We know that rebuilding the skin’s barrier and easing its reactivity are essential ways to ease the discomfort some people experience with sensitive skin.

the Hand & Nail Cream is a fab product and really good value - it’s so moisturising but not too heavy or greasy - well done boots!

STRETCH MARKED SKIN

Posted on 03rd April at 08:59 AM Posted by: S Coxon

My skin has become highly sensitized by the thinness of skin around the knee areas due to stretch marks.  Is there anything I can use as a barrier or repair and also help out with the pain that I get in this area inparticular?

I have suffered with really dry itchy sore skin on my face for years and tried everything including Liz earle, with no success. after speaking to a member of staff in boots, who showed me the expert range on 3/4/07. i have started to use the face wipes morning and night, followed by the daily defence mosturiser. i also use the hydrating mosturiser during the day when my skin feels warm and itchy. it is now only 6/4/07 on my skin on my face feels wonderfull, with no redness or flaky patches at all. so thank you very much. all i need now is a foundation for sensitive skin.

Excessively Oily Skin

Posted on 07th July at 12:05 PM Posted by: A. Miller

I suffer with excessively oily skin, to date I have not found a product to help mattify my face for any longer than half an hour. I cleanse, exfoliate and use products that say they reduce the appearance of large pores and oily skin but they don’t. I rarely wear make up as it slides off my face after a short while. Over the years I have spent a great deal of time and money following suggested regimes to try and combat this, can you help?

spots

Posted on 02nd August at 12:28 PM Posted by: vicky crow

I have recently had a break out in spots on the top of my back and chest and I can’t seem to get rid of them, it’s knocking my confidence.  I’ve suffered from spots on my face since I was 16ish (I’m 23 now) and even though they can get bad I can put up with it even though I would love something to help get rid of them too.  Is there anything I can use to help beat these spots as their not going away.  There’s nothing unusual about them, they just look like normal spots.  I’ve tried different shower gels and spot creams. I hope you can help.

A true and heartfelt thank you!

I just had to use this opportunity to write to thank Steve Barton for the Boots No7 Anti-ageing skin care range!

I have suffered from sensitive skin all my life and after reaching 40, just over 3 years ago, I decided I needed to enlist the help of anti ageing skincare instead of my usual Ponds cold cream and facial oil (to combat the dryness).  After spending a vast amount of money on every miracle cream you can imagine (including the likes of Crem de la Mer etc) I was left with skin that was not only painfully sore but looking dry and older than before!  I therefore resigned myself to the fact I had to stick to my old creams and miss out on all the new technology in skincare. Having convinced myself that they probably didn’t work anyway, I then watched THAT programme on the Boots No7 Protect and Perfect and as they say the rest is history!

I’m overjoyed as I now use the full range of No7 skincare, including the infamous Protect and Perfect Serum and can honestly say my skin looks radiant and naturally healthy.  Using the Protect and Perfect in conjunction with the Uplifting Day/ Night and eye creams have lifted years off my skin.  More than that my skin actually feels comfortable for the first time in decades I no longer need the facial oil or the No7 Advanced Hydration cream I bought just in case!  I always had clear, even skin as a teenager (I never suffered from acne in any form) and well into my late 20’s I had been wrinkle free so much so people used to comment on it. However having had many years’ treatment for endometriosis the various drugs had taken their toll. I know one shouldn’t focus on such things but it really did shake my confidence.

The one area I had been most self-conscious about for many years has been my neck. Coupled with too much sun as a teenager and general neglect plus rapid weight loss a couple of years ago my neck was a constant embarrassment to me.  I would wear polonecks as much as I could and scarves in the days too hot to bear sweaters!  However thanks to your amazing work I spent this summer baring my neck to all and sundry!  I can’t tell you how much this means to me and I just had to let you know!

Now having seen the transformation I now would like to improve it further so I have a couple of requests for your genius mind if I may?

Would it be possible to develop a specific neck cream that really tackles severe slackness and that horrid crepey texture?  I have seen such a marked improvement on my neck that I know you are the man to invent the perfect neck cream!

Lastly my second request is for a facial self tan that includes the amazing anti-ageing ingredients of the Protect and Perfect but that doesn’t lighten the skin?  I find that the brilliant ‘brightening’ effect of the Protect and Perfect does fade my faux tan rapidly (within a day or so)!  As I don’t sunbathe any more (I want to keep the amazing youthful look of my skin that you have created!) I do use self-tans regularly so one that works in conjunction with the No7 technology would be a dream!  Although this is a minor request and if I had to choose I would opt for a darker foundation and pale, gorgeously youthful skin!

Once again a heartfelt thank you for giving me my glowing youthful skin and confidence back!
